Genetic Alliance Australia (GAA) is the national umbrella organisation supporting Australians living with rare, genetic, and undiagnosed conditions. We work alongside member organisations, clinicians, researchers, and government to advocate for better policy, equitable access to care, and connected communities. There are more than 7,000 known rare conditions, around 80% of which are genetic in origin. Fewer than 5% have an approved treatment. For families navigating an ultra-rare or undiagnosed condition, the experience is often one of profound isolation and uncertainty. Finding support, information, and connection with others who understand can be life-changing. GAA exists to make that connection possible, to strengthen the organisations that serve these communities, and to ensure rare disease has a clear and credible voice in national policy. We are a small team doing nationally significant work, and our volunteers play a meaningful role in extending what we are able to deliver for the rare disease community.
