Governance Committee Member (Volunteer) – LLAC

Want to make a real difference in your local community? Join the Governance Committee at Longbeach Learning and Activity Centre (LLAC) in Chelsea.

Chelsea has changed. The financial pressures and lifestyle shifts of recent years have brought new families, new faces, and new energy to our suburb — and after more than 50 years serving this community, Longbeach Learning and Activity Centre is changing with it.

Alongside our programs for the community members who've been with us for years, we're expanding into new territory — from Dungeons & Dragons to Lego builds, from creative workshops to programs that welcome people who've never thought a neighbourhood house was for them. Our community is growing, diversifying, and getting younger, and the energy in the building reflects that.

We're looking for people to join our Governance Committee who are excited by that evolution — and want to help shape where it goes next.

What you'll do:

  • Attend monthly evening meetings with a collegial, supportive team
  • Help guide LLAC's strategy, programs, and future direction
  • Contribute your skills, perspective, and ideas
  • Support sound governance and real community impact

What we're looking for: We welcome people from all walks of life. You'll bring a genuine interest in community, learning, and inclusion, and a willingness to contribute and work collaboratively. We're looking for people with some experience in business, community organisations, the professions, or public life — the kind of background that translates well into governance and strategic thinking. A background in finance or business would be especially welcome right now.

Why now? We're actively building a committee that reflects the full diversity of our community — all backgrounds, identities, and ways of thinking are genuinely welcome. This is a real opportunity to be part of something at an exciting moment in its story.

How to apply: Send a recent CV to [email protected] or call Centre Manager David Wheaton on 03 9776 1386 for a confidential chat.
