We are Healthy Cities Australia, We champion the WHO’s Healthy Cities initiative in Australia to build healthier, happier communities, ensuring a better future for generations to come.

Play Illawarra Communications Internship
Play Illawarra is a playground directory and online listing platform of free community events focused on children and families. Collaborations include working with 4 local councils, NGO's, charities and other businesses that free activities. Its mission is to create a healthier more socially connect community through encouraging play and connection for benefit of children and communities' health.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Set up and support a dedicated Play Illawarra social media account under Healthy Cities Australia, including creating video reels and graphics on Canva (Instagram and Facebook)
  • Develop the Play Illawarra newsletter, including drafting and editing content, and putting it into a Mailchimp template including highlighting playgrounds and events and health promotion message.
  • Attendance at some community Play events to support operations and advocacy.

Skills needed (all training provided)

  • Utilise WordPress to upload blog articles and events
  • Visiting Playgrounds or Community events to get content and insight into their value to communicate to the audience. -Good communication skills, verbal, written and audio visual.
  • Ensure content aligns with HCA and Play Illawarra key messaging and all graphics are aligned with our branding
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively to meet deadlines. Preferred Qualities:
  • An interest in children's and families wellbeing. Role suitable for parents who are already going to play spaces with their children.
  • Content and video skills (desirable, but not essential)
  • Ability to work autonomously and part of a team
    Time Commitment: Minimum vol requirement 2-4 hours a week (flexible in own time –office or home) Fortnightly In person / online catch ups included to work as a team.
