Palliative Care Family Support - Western and South Western Sydney - #223597
This program provides support to children with a life limiting illness and their families in the home. Our patients have been referred to the Palliative Care Dept at Sydney Children's Hospital Network.
This role would particularly suit mature minded volunteers with life experience and wisdom that is so helpful when providing emotional support to parents
I am also seeking to reflect our patient diversity in our volunteer team so therefore particularly interested in anyone who can speak Arabic or other languages (but please don’t be discouraged from applying if you don’t).
Volunteers who live in Western and South Western suburbs of Sydney (or willingness to travel to those suburbs) is highly desirable. You will be matched with a family who have a child with a life limiting illness and visit the family weekly in their home. Travel will be required to the home therefore access to a car and a drivers licence is essential.
Duties range from playing with well siblings, interacting with the patient and providing a listening ear and help to a mum or carer. Sometimes you can accompany them on outings or to medical appointments or help with practical chores in the home such as folding washing.
This is a chance to make such a meaningful difference to these famlies who are often quite isolated. This role is good for those looking for a long term volunteer role.
