Class assistant for non-teaching role - Allawah, - #229574
Dance for Parkinson’s provides movement & music classes to assist people with Parkinson’s Disease and the broader Seniors community. Classes are one hour in length and are conducted in many locations around Sydney. The class begins seated and moves to supported standing and then, if participant is able, to unsupported movement as the class progresses.
The volunteer for the class arrives early to help set up chairs, welcomes participants and continues to assist participants where required during the class. This might be getting extra chairs, water etc. Physical assistance is not required as those requiring physical assistance are required to bring a carer or partner. The volunteer can participate in the dance class while still ensuring needs are met by those class attendees.
Additional volunteer responsibilities are to take attendance details, take class payments and generally be a caring support person for class participants.
Benefits The volunteer will gain satisfaction from helping and assisting others. The volunteer will also benefit from physical activity by attending a weekly dance/movement class. The volunteer will benefit from being part of a larger national organisation. Training on the role via an online course is provided. This is a requirement for the placement.
