Creative Art Volunteers bring comfort, connection, and creativity to patients and families by offering art programs and sessions tailored to individual interests. They also support legacy work, including hand casting, thumb printing and other meaningful projects that help patients and families create lasting memories. Volunteers visit patients during their shift in Laurel Hospice, introduce themselves and offer opportunities to participate in art activities or legacy projects.

Key Responsibilities Visit patients during scheduled shifts (approx. 3 hours, once or twice a week). Offer art activities such as drawing, painting, card-making, origami or colouring. Support legacy projects including hand casting, thumb printing and other personalised keepsakes. Create cards and art packs for patient to use independently. Assist with small creative projects around the ward (e.g. holders for welcome QR code cards). Respect patient boundaries and adapt activities to individual needs and preferences. Provide feedback and updates to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Time Commitment Shifts are typically 3 hours, once or twice a week. Activities vary depending on patient interest and energy levels.

Skills & Attributes Empathy, patience, and sensitivity to the emotional needs of patients. Good communication and listening skills. Interest in art or creativity is desirable but not essential. Flexibility to adapt activities to diverse cultural and personal backgrounds.

Training & Support Orientation and palliative care training provided. Ongoing support and guidance from the Volunteer Coordinator and Creative Art team.

While an interest in art is desirable, it is not essential - empathy, patience and a willingness to engage are the most important qualities. This role provides patients with distraction, joy and a chance to express themselves.
