Tour Guide - Garden Island - #237171

Naval Historical Society of Australia

The Naval Historical Society of Australia provides a range of research, collection, curating and tour guiding for the public and Naval personnel. The society also publishes research papers and periodic journals. The tour guide position involves taking groups of approx. 10 - 15 people on tours of Naval history sites in Sydney.

Working in a team of volunteers is a rather special work environment. Everyone wants to be there and do a good job. A great learning environment as volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds with a variety of experiences and skills.

Volunteers enjoy sharing their skills and knowledge. As a volunteer you “do what you can when you can” – nothing else is required. No application for leave to go on holidays or time with family. There is a lot of personal satisfaction in giving something back to the community.

The NHSA office is in the boatshed at Garden Island and open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fabulous views of the harbour while you work. You can get close up and personal with the Navy fleet and ships in the Captain Cook Graving Dock. Occasionally you will be able to join a guided tour of a RAN ship or a visiting ship. The fleet review next year will be a very interesting spectacle when ships from other countries come to Sydney.
