ABOUT I AM SOMEONE Founded in 2005, I Am Someone is an Australian children's charity with a simple but powerful belief: education changes everything. We work to break the cycle of poverty by finding the world's most at-risk orphaned and vulnerable children and giving them something many of us take for granted... a chance.

We locate children living in extreme poverty, engage their local communities, and provide long-term support that goes far beyond aid. We build schools, water wells, children's villages, and community infrastructure, because we know that true change comes from within. Every child in our care has a name, a story, and the potential to become someone extraordinary.

And they do. Former I Am Someone children are now surgeons, lawyers, teachers, nurses, and community leaders, people who are now lifting up the next generation. Davis came to us at 12 with no home and no family; he's now studying Law at university. Emmanuel was orphaned and homeless by 12; today he's performing surgeries as a paediatric surgeon. Kadiatu was living on a rubbish tip at eight years old; she's now at university studying agriculture and mentoring other children in need.

One of the things that sets us apart is our 100% model where every dollar donated goes directly to our projects in the field. Our social enterprise, including our market stall at the iconic Rose Street Artists Market in Fitzroy, is one of the key ways we fund this work, which is where you come in.

ABOUT THE ROLE As a Market Volunteer, you'll be stationed at our market stall on weekends, engaging with the public, sharing the I Am Someone story, and helping sell our handcrafted photo block range. These are unique handmade pieces featuring the photography of IAS Founder Steve Argent. It's a fun, social, and genuinely meaningful way to give your time.

No prior sales experience is necessary - full training is provided.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Represent I Am Someone at the Rose Street Artists Market stall
• Engage warmly with market visitors and share the organisation's story
• Assist with the sale of handmade photo blocks
• Help create a welcoming and energetic stall atmosphere

SHIFT DETAILS

• Location: Rose Street Artists Market, 60 Rose Street, Fitzroy
• Days: Saturdays and Sundays
• Full day: 9:00am – 4:00pm
• Half day (morning): 9:00am – 1:00pm
• Half day (afternoon): 1:00pm – 4:00pm
• Shifts are coordinated via our volunteer WhatsApp group
• Frequency is flexible — we simply ask that volunteers aim to contribute at least once every 4–6 weeks

THE IMPACT Volunteers typically help raise between $300 and $1,000+ in a single shift. Every session makes a tangible difference to the projects and children we support.
