Dougherty Community Centre Knitting Club Volunteer
We are seeking a warm, reliable and organised volunteer to help coordinate and support a much-loved weekly knitting and social group for seniors. This role includes weekly attendance at meetings, logistical support, and coordinating group communication and community donations.
You'll be part of a friendly and meaningful initiative that brings joy and connection to senior community members, and helps contribute beautiful handmade items to local charities.
At weekly meetings, you will:
- Welcome members and maintain an attendance log
- Collect and manage the $2 optional donation made by attendees
- Coordinate Show & Tell with finished garments
- Collect and take home garments for future charity handovers
- Organise and set up light refreshments
- Foster a warm and inclusive environment
Off-site duties:
- Purchase and manage wool supply using group donation funds
- Store bulk wool at home and stock the centre's supply cupboards as needed
- Coordinate quarterly garment handovers to charities
- Organise group events eg Christmas parties
- Maintain group communication (email, phone)
- Keep birthday list updated and manage acknowledgements
- Coordinate collection and filing of New Member Forms
- Complete Dougherty Centre forms as required
To be successful as a volunteer in this role, you will need to have:
- A welcoming and friendly nature
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Basic record-keeping and money-handling ability
- Willingness to store and transport group materials (eg wool, garments)
- Interest in crafts of community-based initiatives
- Respect and empathy for senior community members
