Mercy Connect NSW is a compassionate initiative under the umbrella of Mercy Works Ltd, dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of refugee, asylum seeker, and newly arrived migrant children in the Greater Sydney area.

Each volunteer is assigned to work with an individual or small group of refugee students in a Sydney school.

Our mission is to engage volunteers in providing essential support to children navigating the challenges of adapting to a new educational and cultural environment. By fostering a sense of belonging and providing academic assistance, we aim to empower these young minds to thrive in their school communities.

Desirable skills: - • An interest in refugee issues and needs. • The ability to treat vulnerable people with respect. • Active listening skills, flexibility and patience, especially in facilitating student learning • Willingness to work in a classroom environment under teacher guidance and direction

Participate in mandatory training provided by Mercy Works Connect NSW and commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week in a school, during school terms for one year to provide continuity for the students. A current Working with Children Check is required. Some schools require additional child safeguarding checks and the completion of child safeguarding modules in addition to the training provided by Mercy Works Connect NSW.
