Volunteer Kitchen Administrator/Cook – Pelican Day Club, Killarney Vale

Pelican Day Club is a welcoming social group for seniors who enjoy connection, companionship and gentle activities in a supportive environment. The group meets every Wednesday at the RSL Community Centre in Hume Boulevard, Killarney Vale.

They are currently seeking a mature and reliable volunteer to take on the role of Kitchen Administrator/Cook on a fortnightly basis, with flexibility to help cover additional shifts when needed (e.g. holidays or appointments).

In this role, you will be responsible for planning and preparing a simple but delicious morning tea and light lunch with dessert for members. You’ll also manage basic food purchasing and ensure the kitchen is left clean and tidy, with support from General Duties volunteers.

Duties include:

• Purchasing ingredients for weekly meals (costs reimbursed)
• Preparing and cooking morning tea and a light lunch with dessert
• Serving food to members in a friendly and welcoming manner
• Coordinating with other volunteers in the kitchen
• Ensuring the kitchen is clean and tidy at the end of the day

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys cooking, being organised, and working as part of a team. More importantly, it’s about creating a warm and enjoyable experience for older members of the community.

What’s involved:

• Fortnightly Wednesday commitment (with additional fill-in opportunities)
• Hours from 8:30am to 1:30pm
• Based at RSL Community Centre, Killarney Vale
• Morning tea and lunch provided for volunteers
• Reimbursement for food purchases
