Would you like to volunteer out in the fresh air while getting some exercise with a great bunch of people.   Your local community needs you to lead established walking groups for over 60s.  You would be leading a super friendly and motivated bunch, and in doing so, taking on an opportunity that makes a hugely meaningful difference to the people who attend.

You need a moderate level of fitness, but you would be leading short, fairly slow-paced walks for predominantly older people.

This opportunity suits someone who loves being with people and is good at interacting and looking after a group, checking in on everyone's progress.

The Heart Foundation cover all aspects of insuring the walk leader and group participants on the walks and our Health Promotion Unit provides all the on-ground support you need to make a success of this role.

The commitment would be about 90-minutes per week maximum, walks themselves about 30-60mins in length and then being there about 15 minutes prior and also optionally staying afterwards with the group for a cafe stop.  Heart Foundation take care of most of the admin; the group leader just has to take the register and send it to us to upload or can do themselves if able and willing.  We can support with training in terms of the details of how to lead a group and are happy to mentor anyone who needs that support to get started.

The process to become a walk leader is very simple, with a short online induction (about 20mins) and then a Police check at no cost to you.   The Health Promotion team at Northern NSW Local Health District will mentor you as much as needed with this role.

If this sounds like you and you would like to have an informal discussion about this exciting opportunity please call Stephen on 0422 538 409.
