OTs & Psychologists Wanted: Help Young Students Reach Their Potential

At EdConnect Australia, we recruit, train and support a dedicated community of volunteers to provide life‑changing mentoring for primary school students who are at risk of not reaching their full potential. We are currently seeking occupational therapists and psychologists who would like to use their professional knowledge and lived experience to mentor a young student. We carefully match students who would benefit from a positive adult role model with a trained mentor. Mentors and students meet at school for one hour each week, building trusting relationships through supportive, strength‑based and interest‑led activities. Mentors are never on their own — they are supported by both a staff member at the school and an EdConnect team member. While this is not a clinical role, your understanding of child development, wellbeing and behaviour can make a powerful difference in helping a child build confidence, emotional regulation and engagement with learning. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and age groups. You may be a practicing or retired OT or psychologist, working part‑time, or seeking a meaningful way to give back your expertise in a community setting. What unites our mentors is a genuine desire to support young people, along with patience, empathy, open‑mindedness and strong listening skills. Many volunteers describe their mentoring experience as deeply rewarding. While they help students grow socially, emotionally and academically, they often find the experience enriches their own lives as well. Over the years, we have recruited and trained thousands of volunteers who have supported many more thousands of young people across Australia. Each year, our volunteers provide life‑changing — and sometimes life‑saving — support to more than 13,000 young people. This includes emotional encouragement, social skill development and everyday support that acts as both a safety net and a springboard for students who might otherwise struggle. If you are an OT or psychologist looking to make a meaningful difference in a young child’s life, we invite you to apply now.
