Logo for School Can't Australia

School Can’t Australia is a parent peer support organisation supporting families whose children are experiencing school attendance difficulties. With over 16,500 members and growing, our Facebook peer support group is the heart of our community — a space where parents and carers find understanding, connection, and practical support, often at the hardest point in their family’s life.

Our community is built on trauma-informed values of compassion, confidentiality, and peer connection. The Community Lead role exists to ensure that space remains safe, consistent, and well-supported — for members and for the Community itself.

SCA has a significant role to play in supporting, empowering and advocating for families. Having over 16,500 families sharing their lived experience of school can’t with us gives us a unique and powerful base for not only supporting families navigating school can’t but also advocating for change.

The Marketing Lead proactively seeks out opportunities to create and share content to encourage and support a safe environment for families to share their stories and experiences and support each other.

They present information to families in a way the empowers them to navigate their own journey of school can’t and amplifies School Can’t Australia’s voice in the broader community, creating opportunities for our people to have a seat at the table when it comes to research and systems reform.

SCA is growing. This role currently sits within a volunteer structure because that is what is operationally possible right now — not because it reflects the value of the work. SCA is actively working toward a model where this role, or a version of it, is a paid position. If you take this role, you will be part of building toward that.
