Van Coordinator Volunteer (Newcastle) - #242045

About the organisation
Street Side Medics is a not-for-profit, GP-led mobile medical service for people experiencing homelessness. Our vision is to ensure that all vulnerable individuals requiring healthcare can access it effortlessly, with dignity and respect.
At Street Side Medics make long term commitments to the communities in which we work. By teaming up with local community partners, and delivering our clinics from the same place, at the same time, on the same day, each week, we’re able to build lasting relationships and ensure continuity of care.
The team on the ground each week are all volunteers and include GPs, other medical specialists, junior doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and other medical and non-medical super stars. The clinics operate from vans with full medical fit outs, and work in conjunction with other homeless services 6 days a week at 13 different locations across New South Wales and Victoria.
About this opportunity
We are on the hunt for a vehicle/mechanical-savvy individual to support the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of our Newcastle van. Over time, the van will begin to service other areas in the Hunter New England area with additional clinics. The van is permanently stored in a location 15-20 mins from central Newcastle.
Key roles and responsibilities of the volunteer van coordinator include:
*Weekly trips to the van to restock and clean/tidy.
*Managing stock levels for clinic consumables.
*General motor vehicle checks including, but not limited to oil, fuel, windscreen fluid, water tank levels and tyre pressure.
*Support for arranging repairs and small fixes as required. Ensuring the van gets to any professional services to fix things that need to be done externally.
*Support in training new and existing volunteers on how the vans works and operates.
*6-weekly trip to the head office in Sydney with the van for full restocks.
Benefits: Benefits of volunteering at Street Side Medics include a chance to become part of a tight knit volunteer community while providing meaningful and immediate support to the most vulnerable amongst us. You will also learn and get access to our key speakers at our annual education days.
