The opportunity:

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from a passionate, values driven individual to join our volunteer Committee of Management in the role of Treasurer. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity to make a meaningful impact by strengthening financial governance and supporting better outcomes for people with disabilities.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Financial literacy and experience in finance / accounting

• Competence using Xero, and Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel/SharePoint/Teams

• Experience managing budgets, bank accounts, and financial reporting

• Ability to prepare and present clear financial reports to a committee or board

• Understanding of not for profit financial management principles and familiarity with grant acquittals / donor reporting

Governance & Compliance Knowledge:

• Understanding of Australian charity governance obligations

• ACNC reporting, financial accountability, ethical use of funds

• Knowledge of basic tax obligations for charities, including GST, BAS and PAYG

• Awareness of NDIS funding principles, including:

• Appropriate handling of participant funds

• Separation of NDIS and non NDIS income

• Financial transparency and safeguards

• Commitment to strong internal controls and risk management

Organisational & Personal Attributes:

• High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail

• Ability to work collaboratively with a volunteer committee and staff

• Strong communication skills, particularly explaining financial matters in plain language

• Reliable, organised, and able to meet reporting deadlines

• Commitment to the mission and values of a disability focused organisation

Role Responsibilities:

• Oversee financial management, record keeping, and cash flow monitoring to support long term sustainability

• Provide financial insight to inform strategic and operational decision making

• Review and strengthen financial procedures, controls, and reporting

• This is a governance/oversight role. Day to day bookkeeping and operational finance tasks are managed by bookkeeping-accounting contractor.

Compliance / Eligibility / Time Commitment:

• Hold a current National Police Check and NDIS worker check (or willingness to obtain)

• Meetings every month (up to 2 hours). In person at Parkside (preferred) or online

• And ad hoc work hours (WFH)

Desirable:

• Previous experience as a treasurer or board member.

• Experience in the arts, disability, or community services sector and NDIS will be highly regarded.

• We strongly encourage applications from people with disabilities and people from diverse backgrounds.
