Warm Hearts, Warm Meals – Hartley’s Winter Breakfast Volunteer

Uniting Victoria And Tasmania

Logo for Uniting Victoria And Tasmania

This winter, help start someone’s day with warmth, dignity, and connection.

At Hartley’s Community Dining Room, breakfast is more than just a meal — it’s often the first moment of comfort, conversation, and care someone experiences that day. As part of Uniting’s Winter Breakfast Program, volunteers help create a welcoming space where community members can enjoy a hot breakfast, friendly conversation, and practical support during the colder months.

We’re looking for compassionate and reliable volunteers to join our morning team and help make a real difference in the lives of people experiencing hardship, isolation, homelessness, or financial stress.

What you might be doing:

• Preparing and serving simple breakfast meals and hot drinks

• Welcoming guests with warmth, respect, and kindness

• Assisting with meal set-up and pack-down

• Helping maintain a clean, safe, and friendly environment

• Supporting positive social connection within the community

• Working alongside staff and fellow volunteers as part of a supportive team

You don’t need hospitality experience — just:

• A friendly and respectful attitude

• Reliability and willingness to help

• Confidence working with a diverse range of people

• Ability to work within a team environment

• A commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming space

Why volunteer with Uniting?

By volunteering with Hartley’s Winter Breakfast Program, you’ll help provide more than food — you’ll help create connection, dignity, and belonging for people doing it tough during winter.

You’ll also:

• Gain valuable hospitality and community service experience

• Meet like-minded people

• Be part of a supportive and purpose-driven team

• Make a direct and visible impact in your local community

Whether you can help once a week or fortnightly, your time can make mornings brighter for someone who truly needs it. Join us this winter and help turn compassion into action.

Volunteer with Uniting Vic.Tas – Be Part of Real Community Impact

For more than 100 years, Uniting Vic.Tas has worked alongside communities across Victoria and Tasmania to create meaningful, lasting change.

Each year, we support thousands of people to build safer, stronger, and more connected lives. From helping children and young people thrive, to supporting families through challenging times, our work is grounded in practical outcomes that make a difference every day.

We walk alongside people experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or addiction, helping them access the support they need to move forward. We empower older people to maintain independence, support people with disability to live life on their terms, and create pathways for learning, employment, and social connection. We also stand with asylum seekers, ensuring they feel welcomed, supported, and part of the community.

Why volunteer with us?

As a volunteer, you play a direct role in these outcomes. Whether it’s offering companionship, sharing skills, or supporting programs, your contribution helps create real change in people’s lives and strengthens the communities we all share.

Volunteering with Uniting is more than giving your time — it’s being part of something that matters.

Uniting is a child safe organisation and is committed in everyday practice to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children, at all times. As a ‘child safe’ organisation, employment with Uniting is subject to a satisfactory national (and international where relevant) police check and relevant Working with Children Check in your State prior to commencement of any paid or unpaid work and/or participation in any service or undertaking.

Uniting is also committed to equal opportunity and ensuring the workplace is reflective of the community. We encourage people from different backgrounds to apply, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people with a disability.
