Help build the digital backbone of an innovative school in Timor-Leste

BETTER Timor is seeking an experienced volunteer to support the selection, planning, and implementation of a low-cost school management and ERP system for the Bakhita School of Excellence in Same, Timor-Leste.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future systems and operations of a rapidly growing educational organisation delivering international-standard education in a rural community.

The Bakhita School of Excellence currently supports approximately 200 students and 21 local Timorese staff, with plans for continued expansion of 650 students by 2035.

We are looking for someone passionate about education, systems thinking, digital transformation, and sustainable development who can help us choose and build a practical, secure, and scalable system suited to the realities of Timor-Leste.

What you’ll help with

  • Advising on the best low-cost or no-cost ERP / school management system architecture
  • Supporting implementation and setup of suitable system
  • Helping design practical workflows for: students, attendance, fees/service hours, parent communication, HR and staff records, scheduling and timetabling including lesson plans, reporting, library, asset tracking
  • Assisting with Microsoft 365 integration including OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Advising on cybersecurity, permissions, backups, and best practice data management
  • Helping create sustainable systems that local Timorese staff can confidently use
  • Supporting future scalability as BETTER expands

What we’re looking for

  • Experience with developing ERP systems, databases, school systems, or digital operations
  • Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both Australian volunteers and Timorese staff
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for sustainable impact
  • Understanding of low-resource or developing-country contexts is advantageous
