Communications Coordinator - Grad Girls Brisbane

Cause: Help drive equity for women in STEM through managing student participant communications.

About the role: We’re looking for a creative and organised Communications Coordinator to support the Grad Girls Brisbane program through engaging written communications and storytelling. You’ll help bring the program to life through promotional content, post-event wrap-ups, participant communications, and media release-style articles that celebrate impact and keep students, volunteers, and partners informed.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys writing, communications, marketing, journalism, media, or storytelling and wants to use those skills to contribute to a meaningful cause.

What you’ll do

  • Draft and schedule communications across the Grad Girls Program, including event promotions, reminders, announcements, and updates.
  • Write post-event articles and media release-style content highlighting program outcomes, stories, and impact.
  • Support creation of engaging content for students, volunteers, partners, and sponsors.
  • Coordinate communication timelines and ensure information is accurate, clear, and consistent.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Lead, Program Lead, and Events team to gather information and content.
  • Assist with formatting and scheduling EDMs or newsletters.
  • Help maintain communication templates, messaging, and brand consistency.
  • Support basic tracking of communication engagement metrics where relevant.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong written communication skills with excellent spelling, grammar, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to write in a clear, engaging, and audience-friendly way.
  • Good organisation and time management skills.
  • Reliability and ability to manage deadlines across multiple communications.
  • Confidence collaborating with different volunteers and stakeholders.
  • Interest in communications, marketing, PR, journalism, or storytelling.
  • Passion for gender equity and diversity in STEM.

Nice to have (not essential - mentoring provided):

  • Experience writing promotional content, newsletters, blog posts, or media releases.
  • Familiarity with EDM or CRM platforms.
  • Experience using Teams, Slack, or Canva.
  • Basic understanding of social media or digital communications.

About the Grad Girls Program

The Grad Girls Program is coming to Brisbane for the first time! Designed to inspire and empower female students to explore careers in STEM, the program features engaging workshops, interactive careers expo, panel discussions, and webinars, culminating in impactful events. Across the 9-month Program, participants connect with STEM professionals, gain hands-on experience, and envision themselves in STEM careers

What is the commitment?

Approximately 4-6 hours per week. Certain times are busier than others

The Grad Girls Program runs for 9 months (February–October). Applicants must commit for the full 2026 program

Flexibility to attend both in-person events and virtual meetings (note: team meetings may be outside business hours or on weekends)
