The DELI Women & Children’s Centre

Volunteer Management Committee Role | Approx. 3-5 hours per week, varying throughout the year

The DELI Women & Children’s Centre is seeking a volunteer Treasurer to join our Management Committee and support the financial governance of our organisation.

The DELI Women & Children’s Centre supports women and children impacted by domestic and family violence. Our work is grounded in safety, dignity, practical support, advocacy and care. As Treasurer, you will play an important governance role in helping ensure The DELI remains financially responsible, sustainable and able to continue providing vital support to women, children and families in our community.

This is a meaningful volunteer leadership role for someone with finance, accounting, audit, risk or senior financial management experience who wants to contribute their skills to a purpose-led community organisation.

About the role

The Treasurer is a member of The DELI’s Management Committee and is responsible to the Committee.

The role works closely with the Chair, General Manager, bookkeeper, auditor and any Finance Subcommittee or relevant Committee members as required.

The Treasurer provides financial governance oversight, advice and review to support good decision-making by the Management Committee. The role helps ensure The DELI maintains sound financial management, budget discipline, cashflow visibility, funding accountability, audit readiness and long-term financial sustainability.

This is a governance role, not a day-to-day finance administration role. Routine finance tasks such as issuing receipts, processing payments, banking money and managing petty cash are handled operationally through the General Manager, bookkeeper and approved finance processes.

The expected time commitment is approximately 3-5 hours per week, although this may vary throughout the year depending on reporting cycles, audit requirements, funding obligations and Committee activity.

Key responsibilities

Governance and Committee participation

As Treasurer, you will:

Attend and participate in Management Committee meetings

Present financial reports and provide clear commentary to support Committee decision-making

Provide financial advice to the Management Committee, Chair and General Manager

Liaise with the General Manager, bookkeeper, auditor and Finance Subcommittee as required

Support the Management Committee to understand The DELI’s financial position, key risks and sustainability considerations

About you

We are looking for someone who is trustworthy, methodical, consistent, collaborative and values-led.

You will ideally bring:

A strong commitment to The DELI’s purpose and to supporting women and children impacted by domestic and family violence

Accounting, finance, audit, risk or senior financial management experience

Experience in a not-for-profit, charity, community service or government-funded environment, highly regarded

Ability to interpret financial reports and explain key issues clearly to Committee members who may not have finance backgrounds

Understanding of budgets, cashflow, restricted and unrestricted funds, grant acquittals, payroll obligations and audit processes

Sound judgement, integrity and ability to identify and escalate financial risk

Ability to work constructively with the General Manager, bookkeeper, Chair, Committee members and auditor

Willingness to take a governance leadership role while respecting the distinction between Committee oversight and operational management

Why volunteer with The DELI?

This is an opportunity to use your financial skills in a way that directly supports women and children in our community.

Strong financial governance helps The DELI remain stable, accountable and sustainable. It means our team can keep doing the work that matters: supporting women and children with care, dignity and practical help when they need it most.

For the right person, this role offers meaningful board-level experience, community impact and the chance to contribute to a committed, purpose-led organisation.

How to apply

Please submit your CV and a short cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are interested in supporting The DELI Women & Children’s Centre.

We welcome applications from people who are aligned with The DELI’s purpose and values, and who are committed to contributing to a safe, respectful and supportive organisation.
