Imagine helping bring a multicultural museum to life — from the very first idea through to opening day. That's exactly what this role offers.
Now we're embarking on something new: the early development of a proposed multicultural museum — and we're looking for a passionate volunteer to help shape it from the ground up.
Why This Role?
- Be part of a genuinely rare opportunity — building a cultural institution from concept to reality
- Gain hands-on experience in cultural heritage, community engagement, and project development
- Work alongside a supportive, community-led team who value your ideas and initiative
- Build a meaningful portfolio in museum curation, research, and multicultural storytelling
- Flexible, remote-friendly involvement with real impact
About the Role?
This is an exciting ground-floor opportunity within a small team and community subcommittee, supporting the development of a proposed multicultural museum from its earliest stages. You'll be involved in:
- Researching how museums are established and operate
- Liaising with existing museums and cultural organisations to learn best practice
- Engaging with community groups to support collection development and partnerships
- Supporting early planning activities including council and stakeholder liaison
- Identifying potential grant and funding opportunities
- Supporting community communication and promotion
This role is perfect for someone with a genuine love of history, culture, and multicultural storytelling who is keen to learn and grow in an emerging, purpose-driven project.
What we are looking for?
Essential:
- Strong interest in history, culture, and multicultural storytelling
- Interest in museums, cultural heritage, or community-based projects
- Confident communicator, able to liaise respectfully with diverse communities
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks in a developing project environment
- Collaborative team player who's keen to learn and take initiative
Bonus if you have:
- Experience in project development, research, or community engagement
- Familiarity with NFP or volunteer organisations
- Experience with grant research or funding applications
- Interest in audio, digital storytelling, or media production
- Interest in museum interpretation, exhibitions, or visitor experience
- Experience working with multicultural or culturally diverse communities
