Support Group Leaders (Online)

ABOUT US
Allergy Life Australia is a national charity dedicated to supporting, advocating and empowering Australians living with allergies.
We run Online Allergy Support Groups that are free to join and made for Australians living with allergies. We have been running these support groups since 2021.
These support group sessions are held in a safe and welcoming online environment and allow participants to have open and genuine discussions about various topics related to their life with allergies.
We are currently looking for a Support Group Leader to facilitate support groups for:
- Families with Allergies
- Adults with Allergies
- Young Children with Allergies (Primary school)
The support group sessions run for 90 minutes and include pre and post-session administration.
Note: No medical or treatment advice is provided in these groups; they provide a safe and comfortable space to talk about allergies and listen to the thoughts, issues, and problems people with allergies face.
THE ROLE
We are looking for Support Group Leaders to facilitate these online support group sessions.
The Support Group Leader would work with our team to facilitate a supportive and inclusive environment during the online support groups, guiding discussions and providing attendees with a safe space to discuss various topics related to their life with allergies.
This position is suitable for someone with an interest and passion for supporting people with allergies, and with an interest in mental health.
The support group sessions are held online, and the Support Group Leader will be provided training, guidance and assistance to build their skills in managing a support group session.
ABOUT YOU
- You have allergy-related life experiences (you have allergies or care for someone who does) with food allergies, environmental allergies, anaphylaxis, etc
- You have an interest in one of our support group areas: Families with Allergies, Adults with Allergies or Young Children with Allergies
- You have a background, experience or interest in Mental Health
- You have an interest and passion for supporting the allergy community
- You want to connect and help others who are experiencing challenges living with allergies
- You have good verbal communication skills and empathy
- You can apply for this role if this is your first position after completing your course and you want to get some experience
- You are punctual and can commit to the monthly session requirement
- You can use Zoom
Details
- Fully remote
- Commitment: Minimum 1 x Support group per month. Rotating roster.
- Payment: Unpaid role

- Training and Guidance Provided
- Volunteers will need access to their own computer or laptop with a stable internet connection
- All volunteers will receive a certificate and will be provided with an organisation referee after the commitment period
