Programs Lead - International Development Portfolio

At Chozen Foundation, we run targeted, high-impact initiatives like our Walk for Water event to fund sustainable development. We operate with lean overheads, meaning our volunteer leaders are directly responsible for driving real change on the ground.
We believe that true development happens through collaboration, not direction. As we scale our programs in Zimbabwe, we are looking for a visionary Volunteer Programs Lead who can act as a strategic bridge between our Australian board and our passionate local team on the ground.
The Opportunity
This is not an administrative support role. As our Volunteer Programs Lead, you will have true ownership of our Zimbabwe portfolio. You will collaborate directly with our local team to co-design, evaluate, and scale community initiatives that respect local context and deliver measurable outcomes.
What You Will Do:
Relationship Anchoring: Build a high-trust, culturally respectful connection with the local Zimbabwean team through regular digital catch-ups, ensuring alignment and mutual support.
Strategic Development: Collaborate with the ground team to evaluate current initiatives and structurally design new, sustainable program blueprints.
Capacity Building: Mentor and empower local team leads in Zimbabwe, helping them optimize their tracking, budgeting, and local resource management.
Impact Storytelling: Work alongside our marketing/fundraising team to translate complex field data and human stories into compelling insights for our donors.
Time Commitment & Flexibility Hours: Approximately 4 to 8 hours per week (highly flexible).
Location: Remote / Work from Home, with occasional virtual board alignments.
Cross-Border Syncing: Must be willing to accommodate occasional late afternoon or evening video calls to align with Zimbabwe time zones (GMT+2).
Who We Are Looking For This role is ideal for a seasoned professional, a retired international development expert, or a mid-to-senior corporate leader looking to leverage their skill set for profound global impact.
Skills & Experience: Strategic Maturity: Experience in program design, international development, or senior project management.
Cultural Intelligence (CQ): Deep empathy and cross-cultural communication skills. Previous experience working with remote or international teams (ideally within Africa) is an advantage.
Autonomy: A self-starter who thrives when given total ownership of a portfolio and can problem-solve independently.
Passion for Equity: A strong commitment to asset-based community development (empowering locals rather than dictating solutions).
Why Join Us as a Volunteer Leader?
True Ownership: The autonomy to build and shape an international portfolio from scratch.
Direct Visibility: See the immediate, raw impact of your strategic choices on the communities we serve in Zimbabwe.
A Collaborative Community: Work alongside an agile, passionate Australian leadership team that values your expertise as a peer.
How to Apply
Please submit a brief summary of your professional background (or your LinkedIn profile link) along with 2–3 sentences on why building a strong connection with our Zimbabwean team resonates with you.
