Volunteer Facilitators Wanted

Help Victorians start conversations that matter

Do you enjoy engaging with people, leading discussions, and making a positive impact in your community? We are seeking enthusiastic volunteer facilitators to deliver community information sessions about palliative care and/or advance care planning across metropolitan Victoria.

This is a rewarding opportunity to use your communication and facilitation skills to help people better understand their healthcare choices, plan ahead, and feel more confident discussing topics that many people find difficult but important.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Facilitator, you will lead engaging community sessions using structured presentations and resources provided by Palliative Care Victoria. Sessions may be delivered face-to-face in metropolitan Melbourne or online to regional Victorian communities.

You don't need to be an expert in palliative care or advance care planning - we provide comprehensive training, resources, and ongoing support. What matters most is your ability to connect with people, facilitate discussions, and create a welcoming learning environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Facilitating community information sessions for groups of up to 30 participants

  • Delivering presentations using resources and materials provided

  • Encouraging discussion and responding to participant questions

  • Collecting simple evaluation data following sessions

  • Participating in training and ongoing support opportunities

Each session, including preparation, delivery and administration, takes approximately two hours.

Who We're Looking For

This role may suit people with experience in:

  • Healthcare

  • Community services

  • Social work

  • Education

  • Adult learning

  • Facilitation, training or public speaking

We are looking for volunteers who have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Confidence presenting to groups

  • Strong computer skills, including PowerPoint and online meeting platforms

  • A mature and sensitive approach to discussions about illness, death, dying, bereavement and future healthcare planning

  • Reliability, professionalism and a commitment to our values

  • A willingness to commit to the role for at least 12 months

Why Volunteer With Us?

  • Make a meaningful difference in your community

  • Help people gain confidence in planning for future healthcare decisions

  • Use your professional and life experience in a rewarding way

  • Receive comprehensive training and ongoing support

  • Meet a diverse range of community groups across Victoria

  • Join a small, friendly and supportive team

  • Receive reimbursement for approved out-of-pocket expenses, including travel

About the Community Discussions

Our community sessions aim to:

Increase understanding of palliative care

  • What palliative care is

  • When and how it can help

  • How to access services

  • Common myths and misconceptions

Encourage advance care planning

  • Planning ahead for future healthcare

  • Talking with family and loved ones about healthcare wishes

  • Documenting personal preferences and values

By volunteering in this role, you will help create informed, compassionate communities that are better prepared to support people through serious illness, dying and bereavement.

If you are passionate about community education and helping people navigate important life conversations, we would love to hear from you.
