Governance Support • Support the executive in maintaining effective governance structures and processes • Assist in the preparation and coordination of executive meetings, including agendas, papers, and minutes • Maintain accurate records of executive decisions, policies, and governance documentation • Ensure governance practices align with the organisation’s constitution and relevant regulatory requirements Compliance Management • Monitor compliance with Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) requirements and other regulatory obligations • Maintain a compliance calendar for reporting deadlines, policy reviews, and statutory requirements • Support preparation and submission of annual reports, governance statements, and required documentation • Ensure organisational policies are current, accessible, and aligned with best practice in the not-for-profit sector Policy & Risk Management • Assist in the development, review, and implementation of organisational policies and procedures • Support the identification and management of organisational risks, including financial, operational, and reputational risks • Maintain a risk register and support mitigation strategies in collaboration with the executive team. Quality & Accountability • Promote transparency and accountability in all organisational processes • Support internal audits and preparation for external audits where required • Ensure appropriate documentation systems are maintained for funding, grants, and program compliance Stakeholder & Organisational Support • Work collaboratively with the Treasurer, Secretary (if separate), and other executive members • Provide guidance on governance best practices relevant to patient-led and community-based health organisations • Support capacity building within ASCA to strengthen long-term governance sustainability Selection Criteria • Demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, administration, or not-for-profit management • Strong understanding of Australian regulatory requirements for charities and incorporated associations • Experience working with or within not-for-profit, community health, or patient advocacy organisations (highly desirable) • High attention to detail and ability to manage documentation and reporting requirements • Strong organisational and communication skills • Ability to work collaboratively with a volunteer Board in a culturally diverse community setting This is a voluntary position requiring professionalism, integrity, and commitment to supporting strong governance systems that enable ASCA to effectively serve the sickle cell community across Australia.
