Treasurer – Liddelow Scout Group

Scouts WA (Scout Association of Australia)

Logo for Scouts WA (Scout Association of Australia)

Would you like to use your book-keeping skills to support 5-25 year-olds growing from little kids to confident adults with great teamwork and leadership skills, within a framework expressly designed to protect them from harm? The Treasurer is a vitally-important member of the Scout Group Committee, tracking budgets and expenditures, managing reimbursements, issuing and paying invoices, and ensuring that our financial records are kept up-to-date and auditable. ScoutsWA has mandated the use of Xero for all groups, to ensure consistency and transparency, and to facilitate GST management. Having a small budget, divided into several sub-budgets, with simple invoicing to members, and payment of invoices for suppliers, this role would be perfect for a newly-qualified or near-qualified Business, Accounting or Book-keeping student wanting experience for their CV; or a current or retired accountant or book-keeper wanting a simple way to use their skills for great benefit to the local community! As an adult member of ScoutsWA, the Treasurer will have access to Scouts Australia's national training program. There is no obligation to do more of this training than the 3 units (approx 2hrs in total) on Scouts' Code of Ethics, Child Protection Policy and WHS, but there is the opportunity (if you wish) to do any of Scouts Australia's online training units (including those for adventurous activities, scouting management, and interpersonal skills) and to pursue other adventurous activities like bushcraft/survival skills, camping, hiking, abseiling, cycling, snorkelling, archery and canoeing. You can also earn nationally-recognised qualifications at very minimal cost, through assessment of what you’ve learned and done in Scouts and elsewhere. The Liddelow Scout Group Committee meets about twice per school term (usually on a weeknight evening) - attendance via Microsoft Teams can be arranged if in-person attendance isn't practical.
