Vets for Compassion

Vets for Compassion is seeking an exceptional Volunteer Personal Assistant to support our Operations Manager during an exciting period of growth and development.

As our organisation continues to expand, so too does the demand for our work. With a small support team managing an increasingly complex workload, we are now looking for a highly organised, proactive and trustworthy person to provide direct support to our Operations Manager, who oversees the day-to-day running of the organisation.

This is a unique opportunity to play a meaningful role behind the scenes of a veterinary-led charity that supports animals, communities and responders during emergencies and disasters.

About the Role

Our current focus is on building structure for long-term sustainability. This includes developing systems, procedures and protocols, improving internal processes, coordinating training and upskilling opportunities, and strengthening the support we provide to our teams on the ground.

As Volunteer Personal Assistant, you will help keep things moving. You will provide practical, administrative and coordination support across a wide range of operational areas, helping the Operations Manager and broader team stay organised, responsive and focused.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Managing schedules, appointments, meetings and reminders
  • Assisting with emails, correspondence and follow-up tasks
  • Coordinating training days, workshops and team development activities
  • Assisting with travel arrangements for training, meetings and disaster response deployments
  • Running errands and collecting supplies when required
  • Supporting field teams with logistics, communication and practical needs
  • Helping research resources, suppliers, training options and operational solutions
  • Assisting with sponsorship and partnership outreach
  • Supporting fundraising and infrastructure development efforts when required
  • Helping maintain team morale, communication and engagement
  • Assisting with the development and organisation of procedures, documents and internal resources
  • Providing general PA support across the day-to-day needs of the organisation

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Exceptionally organised, efficient and reliable
  • A natural problem-solver who can take initiative and follow through
  • Flexible, practical and willing to assist wherever needed
  • Loyal, trustworthy and highly discreet
  • Comfortable handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Calm under pressure and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • A strong communicator with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident researching, making enquiries and approaching businesses or stakeholders
  • Professional, warm and people-focused
  • Passionate about animal welfare, disaster response and supporting volunteer teams

This role would suit someone who is retired, semi-retired, working part-time or casually, or otherwise has a good level of availability and a genuine interest in contributing to the future of Vets for Compassion.

What We Need

This is not a role for someone looking for a title without responsibility. We need a genuine go-getter who understands that volunteer organisations are complex, resource-limited and often operating under significant pressure.

The right person will understand the difference between running a not-for-profit charity and running a business. They will appreciate the realities of working with limited resources, donor-funded projects, volunteer teams, urgent operational needs and sensitive situations.

You will need to be comfortable working in a role where priorities can shift quickly, where confidentiality is essential, and where the work you do behind the scenes directly helps support animals and people on the ground.

Why This Role Matters

This position will play an important role in helping Vets for Compassion continue to grow in a sustainable and structured way. By supporting the Operations Manager, you will help strengthen the systems, training, partnerships and operational foundations needed to ensure our teams can respond safely, effectively and compassionately when animals and communities need us most.

If you are highly organised, trustworthy, proactive and passionate about making a real difference, we would love to hear from you.
