About the Grad Girls Tech Program

The Grad Girls Tech program is a flagship initiative with not-for-profit organisation, Women 4 STEM, designed to support women and gender diverse tertiary students and recent graduates as they transition into tech careers through mentorship, facilitated workshops, industry connection, and real-world exposure.

Role Overview

The Student Engagement Lead oversees all student-facing touchpoints within the Grad Girls Program, ensuring participants feel supported, connected, and empowered throughout their journey. You will provide strategic direction and guidance to the five Student Engagement Support volunteers, aligning engagement activities with the wider Grad Girls program goals and ensuring consistency across all communication channels (including Discord).

Working closely with the Events Management Coordinators (Main, Partner-hosted & Virtual Events), as well as the Ticketing Lead and Data Lead, you will ensure student communications (including event invite details and survey feedback) processes are streamlined, accessible, and impactful. This role is central to building community, boosting program participation, and ensuring students maximise the value of their involvement.

Note: This role requires approximately 6 hours per week, spread across the week (30-60 minutes per day, rather than completing all hours in a single day).

This is an ideal role for someone with strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills who is passionate about student engagement, and building inclusive communities. Volunteers will gain practical experience in stakeholder and participant management, expand their networks, receive hands-on exposure and mentoring, and enjoy perks such as discounted tickets to Women 4 STEM events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate five Student Engagement Support volunteers, setting priorities, providing guidance, and fostering a supportive team culture.
  • Oversee event communications by ensuring Student Engagement Support volunteers provide clear, accurate, and consistent information to students (agenda, logistics, timing, expectations).
  • Guide and support Discord & email engagement, ensuring Coordinators have processes, resources, and tone-of-voice guidelines for answering FAQs and fostering online community.
  • Ensure cross-team alignment by coordinating with Events Coordinators (Main, Partner-hosted & Virtual Events) so that student communications are consistent and timely across all event streams.
  • Direct student registration strategy by working with Marketing and Ticketing Leads to set goals, monitor sign-ups, and support Student Engagement Support volunteers in delivering effective outreach campaigns.
  • Oversee on-the-day student experience, ensuring sufficient volunteer coverage, setting protocols for student support (registration desks, wayfinding, troubleshooting), and acting as the escalation point for issues.
  • Champion inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring Student Engagement Support volunteers implement practices that support intersectional student needs (accessibility, dietary, wellbeing consideration and more).
  • Monitor and evaluate student feedback processes by overseeing survey distribution, feedback collection, and data sharing; collaborate with Data Team to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Consolidate engagement reporting by reviewing Student Engagement Support volunteers monthly reports, synthesising insights, highlighting systemic issues, and providing recommendations to the Program Lead and Program 2IC.

Who are we looking for?

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working across diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Organised and proactive, with attention to detail in managing registrations and communications
  • Friendly, approachable, reliable and enthusiastic, with a student-focused approach
  • Confident with Zoom and Teams; Google Meet experience a bonus
  • Experience with Slack is an advantage (not essential)
  • A passion for gender equality and supporting diversity in STEM education

What is the commitment?
