Social Media & Marketing Coordinator (Possible job-share opportunity)

The FIFO Family Project

Role overview

  • Lead our day-to-day social media content across Instagram and Facebook, and coordinate a monthly community newsletter in Mailchimp
  • Create and schedule posts in advance using Buffer so your volunteering can fit around work, study or parenting
  • This can be a job-share role – one volunteer can focus on social media, another on the monthly newsletter if that suits better
  • Support greater awareness of community, perinatal and family support across WA, with a focus on families living with FIFO work

Key duties

  • Plan and create engaging social media content (graphics, captions and, if you enjoy it, simple reels or stories) for Instagram and Facebook
  • Batch and schedule posts via Buffer to maintain a consistent online presence
  • Share updates about events, programs, resources, stories and key dates (for example Book Week, Father’s Day, perinatal mental health dates)
  • Coordinate a monthly Mailchimp newsletter: outline, content sourcing, drafting, layout and sending
  • Collaborate with other volunteers and the Founder to gather stories, photos, event updates and relevant community or perinatal resources
  • Keep an eye on basic metrics (opens, clicks, reach, engagement) to see what’s landing and tweak over time
  • Maintain brand voice and tone using our existing guides and examples, with room to bring your own ideas and creativity

Time commitment

  • Flexible and remote – most work can be done when it suits you
  • Rough guide: around 3–5 hours per week in total
  • If job-shared, time can be split
  • Optional extra hours around major campaigns or events, if you’d like more experience

Skills and experience

  • Experience using Instagram and Facebook in a personal, professional or volunteer context
  • Strong written communication skills and an eye for simple, clear visuals
  • Comfortable with (or keen to learn) tools like Canva, Buffer and Mailchimp
  • Organised and self-directed, whether you are focusing on social media, the newsletter or both
  • Interest in community wellbeing, perinatal mental health, family support or mental health awareness more broadly
  • You do not need to be from a FIFO background – curiosity, care for families and comfort with social media are what matter here

About The FIFO Family Project

  • The only non-profit in Australia focused exclusively on FIFO families
  • Delivers community events, practical resources and workplace initiatives that support families and psychosocial safety

What you gain

  • Hands-on experience managing social media and email marketing for a mission-driven organisation
  • A portfolio of campaigns, posts and newsletters you can showcase for future roles in marketing, communications or community work
  • Meaningful CV updates in digital marketing, content creation and community engagement, plus the opportunity to request references
  • Flexible volunteering that can fit around your life, with the ability to batch work and schedule content in advance
  • Access to Volunteering WA events and training to support your development as a volunteer
  • Connection with a small, values-driven team working at the intersection of family support, perinatal wellbeing and mental health

Impact of this role

  • Make it easier for families and parents to discover events, resources and support at the moment they actually need them
  • Amplify the voices and stories of families, communities and partners who are often missed in mainstream conversations
  • Grow the reach and credibility of a non-profit focused on early intervention and practical support, so more families can access it before crisis, not after
