As a Koala Care volunteer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and appearance of the Koala Conservation Australia’s site (such as Koala Hospital and Wild Koala Breeding Centre) and its surrounding properties. You will handle a range of maintenance and gardening requests across the facility, contributing to the upkeep of koala enclosures, hospital and wild breeding grounds, vehicles, and equipment.

This role is essential in maintaining a safe environment for koalas, staff, volunteers, and visitors by ensuring all areas are hazard-free, and buildings and equipment kept in top working condition, supporting the overall smooth operation of the organisation.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• Friendly and approachable with strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Effectively working as part of a passionate, high functioning volunteer team.
• Ability to work on your own and take initiative
• Good level of physical fitness as sites are in state forests and National Parks.
• Previous trade, maintenance and gardening experience or skills are a plus

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance tasks on grounds, buildings, equipment, and vehicles as assigned by the Conservation Manager or Maintenance Coordinator, ensuring timely completion for the safety and efficiency of staff and volunteers.
• Maintain the external environment of the KCA sites, including cleaning exterior surfaces, removing debris, and ensuring an attractive and safe presentation of the grounds.
• Adhere to work health and safety policies while performing all tasks, ensuring that equipment, facilities, and work areas are hazard-free and compliant with safety regulations.
• Ensure the upkeep of all equipment and vehicles, following proper maintenance schedules, storing equipment appropriately, and keeping accurate records of their condition.
• Implement general maintenance and gardening schedules for buildings and public areas, ensuring all structures, walkways, and enclosures are safe, well-maintained, and free of hazards.
