As a Koala Care volunteer, you will play a critical role by providing hands-on care to wild koalas in our Wild Koala Breeding program. You play a vital role in supporting koala care by cleaning their enclosures, ensuring fresh leaf and water, and upholding KCA’s high standards of wild animal care, cleanliness and bio security measures at our breeding facilities to our koalas who are in our breeding program. In this role you will working across morning or afternoon shifts, 7 days a week 365 days a year in all-weather types. This role is essential to the wellbeing of the koalas and the continued success of KCA vision and mission.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Friendly, approachable team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effectively working as part of a passionate, high functioning volunteer team.
  • Ability to follow team leader instructions and set procedures for the care of
  • Good level of physical fitness as it involves being on your feet for extended periods, cleaning of yards and indoor surfaces, cutting branches and carrying bundles of branches

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide direct koala care by preparing and replenishing fresh leaf and water, ensuring the koalas have accessible food and water according to wild koala breeding protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness of koala enclosures and grounds, including cleaning and scrubbing yards and furniture, removing waste including scat, and sanitizing all care equipment such as towels, leaf pots, and water bowls.
  • Monitor and report on koala health and behaviour, notifying the koala keeper or Wild Koala Breeding Manager of any adverse changes or concerns.
  • Uphold hygiene standards by cleaning and tidying public and staff areas, including toilets, floors, and pathways, to ensure a sanitary and pleasant environment.
  • Adhere to all wild koala breeding programs protocols and directives from the Koala Keeper, or Wild Koala Breeding Manager to ensure the safe and effective care of koalas. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in all areas, ensuring safe and sanitary conditions, while adhering to work health and safety policies.
