We are seeking a knowledgeable and engaging tutor to facilitate an Ancient History Interest Group for students with a passion for exploring the people, cultures and events that shaped the ancient world.

1. About the Course

This discussion-based interest group provides participants with the opportunity to explore fascinating aspects of ancient history, including civilisations such as Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Mesopotamia and other significant cultures. Sessions encourage learning, conversation and the sharing of ideas in a friendly and supportive environment.

3.Knowledge and Subject Understanding

• Strong knowledge of ancient civilisations, historical events and cultural developments.
• Interest in a broad range of historical topics, including archaeology, society, politics, religion and daily life in the ancient world.
• Ability to relate historical topics to modern perspectives and interests.
• Awareness of current historical research and discoveries is desirable.
• Understanding of adult learning principles and inclusive educational practices.

Teaching & Facilitation Skills

• Clear Communication: You explain complex topics in simple, engaging language.
• Discussion Leadership: You guide conversations that encourage participation and welcome diverse perspectives.
• Adaptability: You tailor sessions to meet the interests and learning styles of seniors.
• Supportive Atmosphere: You foster a warm, respectful environment where learners feel valued and inspired.

Volunteer Commitment

As a volunteer tutor, you’ll lead:

• weekly sessions lasting 1 hour
• anytime between 10am to 4pm from Monday to Friday. (subject to room availability)
• open for discussion for online class

We’re conveniently located in Sydney’s CBD, just a short walk from Town Hall or St James station.
