We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tutor to facilitate Great People Who Shaped Our World, an engaging course for older adult learners interested in exploring the lives, achievements and lasting influence of remarkable individuals throughout history.

1.About the Course

This discussion-based course examines the contributions of influential people who have shaped society, culture, science, exploration, innovation and human progress. Participants will explore the stories, achievements and legacies of notable figures from different eras and regions, while sharing ideas and perspectives in a friendly and supportive learning environment.

2.What You Bring

  • A passion for history, biography and lifelong learning.
  • Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with older adult learners.
  • A welcoming and inclusive approach that encourages participation and discussion.
  • The ability to bring historical figures and their stories to life.
  • A genuine interest in fostering curiosity and learning.

3.Knowledge and Subject Understanding

  • Broad knowledge of influential figures from history, science, literature, exploration, politics, social reform, the arts and other fields.
  • Understanding of the historical context in which these individuals lived and worked.
  • Ability to present balanced perspectives on achievements, challenges and legacies.
  • Interest in connecting historical contributions to their impact on today's world.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and inclusive teaching practices.

Teaching & Facilitation Skills

  • Clear Communication: You explain complex topics in simple, engaging language.
  • Discussion Leadership: You guide conversations that encourage participation and welcome diverse perspectives.
  • Adaptability: You tailor sessions to meet the interests and learning styles of seniors.
  • Supportive Atmosphere: You foster a warm, respectful environment where learners feel valued and inspired.

Volunteer Commitment

As a volunteer tutor, you’ll lead:

  • weekly sessions lasting 1 hour
  • anytime between 10am to 4pm from Monday to Friday. (subject to room availability)
  • open for discussion for online class

Location

We’re conveniently located in Sydney’s CBD, just a short walk from Town Hall or St James station.
