About KindHer Threads

KindHer Threads is a Toowoomba-based registered charity built on a Style It Forward model. Paid boutique styling sessions fund complimentary styling experiences for women referred through community partner organisations. The organisation is grounded in a fit-and-feel philosophy that supports women without reducing them to a size or a number, and its work is positioned as a styling experience, not a shopping trip or an op shop.

Founded and led by Cindy Nicollet, whose background spans 15 years in psychology, KindHer Threads works alongside women at vulnerable points in their lives, walking with them through partnerships with varied community organisations.

About the Role

The Chairperson provides strategic leadership to the Board and works in close partnership with the CEO/Founder to guide KindHer Threads through its next phase of growth. This is an exciting time to join: the organisation has an established governance and financial policy suite, a 12-month strategic plan, growing media coverage and community reputation, and is looking for a Chair who can help steward its next stage of sustainable expansion.

The Chair leads a Board that currently includes Directors as well as a Treasurer and Secretary, and will play a key role in Board recruitment, succession, and development as the organisation grows.

Key Responsibilities

Governance leadership

• Chair Board meetings, set agendas in consultation with the CEO, and ensure sound decision-making processes
• Ensure the Board meets its obligations under ACNC governance standards and DGR requirements
• Oversee the Board's use of its governance and financial policy frameworks
• Support the ongoing development of Board papers, reporting, and strategic oversight tools

Strategic partnership with the CEO

• Work closely with the CEO/Founder as a thought partner and sounding board
• Support delivery of the organisation's strategic plan
• Provide guidance on risk, sustainability, and long-term organisational direction

Board development

• Lead recruitment and induction of new Board members
• Support succession planning and Board skills mix
• Foster a Board culture that is collaborative, accountable, and mission-aligned

External representation

• Represent KindHer Threads at community, donor, and partner events as required
• Support relationship-building with funders, corporate partners, and community organisations
• Act as an ambassador for the Style It Forward model and the organisation's mission

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated Board or senior governance experience, ideally within the charity or not-for-profit sector
• Understanding of ACNC governance standards, or willingness to build this quickly
• Strong strategic thinking and sound judgement
• Genuine alignment with KindHer Threads' mission and fit-and-feel philosophy
• Experience in one or more of: community services, retail or fashion, financial management, fundraising, or marketing (complementary to existing Board skills is highly valued)
• A collaborative style that supports and empowers the CEO/Founder rather than working around her
• Connection to, or strong understanding of, the Toowoomba community

Time Commitment

• Attendance at Board meetings (presently the last Tuesday evening of each month)
• Availability for occasional strategic sessions and key events, including the organisation's annual calendar of fundraising and community events
• Ad hoc availability to support the CEO on strategic matters between meetings
