We believe language is an important pathway to confidence, belonging, and participation in the community. We are seeking a passionate and friendly volunteer English Language Tutor who can support Korean-speaking community members to improve their English communication skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.

About the Volunteer Role

We are looking for a Korean-speaking volunteer who can assist participants with conversational English, everyday communication, and building confidence when using English in daily life.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys helping others, sharing knowledge, and making a positive difference in the lives of community members.

Location: Eastwood NSW
Commitment: Fortnightly
Day: Wednesday
Time: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The volunteer English Language Tutor will:

  • Provide basic English language support to Korean-speaking participants
  • Facilitate friendly and engaging English conversation sessions
  • Help participants improve confidence in speaking and understanding English
  • Support participants with everyday communication skills, including conversations used in community, shopping, appointments, transport, and social settings
  • Explain English words, phrases, and expressions in a way that is easy to understand
  • Use Korean language skills where helpful to support understanding and learning
  • Encourage participants to actively participate and feel comfortable practising English
  • Create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
  • Adapt activities and discussions according to participants’ needs and confidence levels
  • Provide encouragement and positive feedback to support ongoing learning

Skills and Experience Required

We are looking for a volunteer who:

  • Can speak fluent English and Korean
  • Has a genuine interest in supporting people from culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Is patient, understanding, and encouraging
  • Has good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enjoys meeting new people and building community connections
  • Is reliable and committed to attending fortnightly sessions
  • Is comfortable supporting people with different levels of English ability

Previous teaching or tutoring experience is welcomed but not essential. We value enthusiasm, kindness, patience, and a willingness to help others.
