Help young Australians rethink waste and lead practical environmental change.

Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd is a youth-led nonprofit empowering students and schools to create measurable environmental impact. Our work combines AI-powered waste-sorting technology, interschool sustainability challenges, student leadership networks, environmental events and green career pathways.

We are inviting applications from experienced professionals interested in joining our Board as voluntary Non-Executive Directors. Multiple appointments may be considered as we strengthen the organisation for its next stage of growth.

We particularly welcome experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Corporate partnerships, sponsorship and fundraising
• Finance, investment, audit or risk management
• Government, council and stakeholder relations
• Education, youth engagement or child safety
• Environmental sustainability and the circular economy
• Technology, artificial intelligence or digital products
• Marketing, communications and public relations
• Strategy, social enterprise and organisational growth

Key responsibilities

• Contribute independent judgment and strategic guidance
• Support responsible organisational growth and good governance
• Review strategy, risk, performance and major initiatives
• Strengthen relationships with schools, businesses, government and community partners
• Provide introductions or specialist advice where appropriate
• Act in the best interests of Rethink Australia and comply with applicable director duties
• Support a safe and respectful youth-led operating environment

About you

You are an experienced professional who believes young people should have meaningful opportunities to lead environmental change. You bring sound judgment, integrity, constructive thinking and a willingness to contribute practically.

Previous board experience is valued but not essential. Applications from experienced first-time directors with relevant executive, professional, community or technical expertise are welcome.

The commitment is approximately four evening board meetings per year, primarily online, plus reasonable preparation and occasional strategic advice or event participation. This is an unpaid, honorary position.

Why join Rethink Australia?

You will help shape a growing youth-led organisation combining environmental action, behavioural change, education and AI-powered technology. Your contribution will support students and schools to build better waste habits, develop leadership skills and create measurable community impact.

To apply, please submit your SEEK Volunteer application and include a CV or short professional biography. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an introductory conversation and may be asked to provide references and complete relevant governance and eligibility checks.
