Many Rivers is seeking Aboriginal people who are interested in contributing to the leadership, governance, and future direction of our organisation, joining as board members. Expressions of interest will be viewed as soon as they are received so your early interest welcomed.

As an Aboriginal community housing provider, we believe it is important that Aboriginal voices, community knowledge, and lived experience are represented around the board table. We are looking to strengthen Aboriginal representation in our governance and welcome expressions of interest from Aboriginal leaders, community members and emerging leaders who are passionate about creating positive outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities.

About Many Rivers

Many Rivers is an Aboriginal community housing provider based in Port Macquarie. We manage more than 750 homes across New South Wales and work alongside Aboriginal communities to support housing, wellbeing, and community development. Many Rivers is a financially sustainable organisation, with a strong commitment to cultural integrity, community connection and making a lasting difference for Aboriginal people and families.

About the opportunity

We are seeking one or two Aboriginal people to join our governance journey and potentially become member directors of the Many Rivers board.

To help applicants understand the role and responsibilities of a board director, successful candidates will initially be invited to attend Board and committee meetings, meet current directors and gain insight into the organisation’s strategic priorities and governance responsibilities.

Following this process, and subject to membership requirements and relevant approvals, candidates may be considered for appointment as member directors at the Many Rivers Annual General Meeting November 2026.

This is an opportunity to bring your voice, experience, community knowledge, and leadership to help the future direction of Many Rivers.

Who we are looking for

We encourage expressions of interest from Aboriginal people who:

• live within 50 km of a Many Rivers managed property

• have strong connections to community

• are respected within their community, workplace, or professional networks

• are committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities

• can contribute positively to discussions and decision-making constructively to a governance environment

• are able to commit 4-6 hours a month to Board and committee responsibilities

We welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

Skills and experience that may be valuable include:

• housing and community housing

• Aboriginal community-controlled organisations

• Governance and leadership

• finance, audit, or risk

• Education, training, and workforce development

• business, enterprise, and entrepreneurship

• strong community networks and local knowledge, particularly in Northern NSW

Prior Board experience is welcomed but not essential. Support will be available for those interested in developing their governance skills and understanding of board responsibilities.

Commitment

The Board meets approximately every two months, either in person or online. Committees meet quarterly. The Board also holds an annual in-person strategic planning session.

These roles are voluntary and unpaid, however reasonable travel and accommodation expenses associated with attending meetings in Port Macquarie will be covered by Many Rivers.
