Enjoy writing? Creative with some digital know-how? Want to broaden your skills in working with community organisations? Interested in local history? Looking for a flexible volunteer role where your ideas and initiative can make a genuine impact?

Annerley-Stephens History Group Inc (ASHG) is seeking a is seeking a volunteer Communications & Engagement Officer to help us connect our community with the fascinating stories, people and places that have shaped our local area.

With around 120 members, ASHG is dedicated to researching, collecting, preserving and sharing the stories of our local community through events, publications, workshops, conferences, social media and digital projects. We are proud of our rich history, but we're equally excited about exploring new and innovative ways to engage people with local history.

As Communications & Engagement Officer, you'll help ensure members, supporters and community partners stay informed, connected and inspired. You'll be at the centre of how ASHG communicates, helping raise awareness of our activities and strengthening our connections across the community.

You'll join a friendly and supportive Committee that welcomes new ideas and values creativity. If you've ever thought "there must be a better way to do this", we'll be delighted to hear your suggestions.

What You'll Be Doing

Working closely with the Secretary, President and other volunteers, you will:

  • Coordinate and distribute member communications, including event information, updates, agendas and minutes.
  • Help manage approximately two to three email communications each month.
  • Share information with community groups, local history organisations and other stakeholders.
  • Create and publish social media and website content.
  • Assist with publicity and community engagement activities.
  • Explore new opportunities to raise awareness of local history and the work of ASHG.

There is flexibility within the role and plenty of scope to shape communications in ways that suit your interests, skills and ideas. Mailchimp is currently used for email communications, but we're open to new approaches and tools if they help us work more effectively.

About You

You don't need to be a professional marketer or communications specialist. We're looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys writing and communicating with different audiences.
  • Has a creative mindset and enjoys sharing stories.
  • Is comfortable using digital tools and online platforms.
  • Likes working collaboratively with others.
  • Wants to contribute to a positive and active community organisation.
  • Is keen to try new ideas and help grow community engagement.
