Our mission is to remove the stigma associated with mental illness, help people to develop good mental health hygiene, develop skills to cope in a mental health crisis and to feel comfortable talking about their own mental health. In doing this we hope to develop communities of understanding who are able to listen to and support those struggling with mental health issues as well as enabling those communities to develop individualised mental health awareness programs.

About the role The HR Officer at MYND Initiative plays a versatile and dynamic role supporting the organisation’s human resources functions. This volunteer position offers a unique opportunity to focus on one or more key areas—Recruitment, Work Health and Safety (WHS), or Wellbeing and Engagement—based on your interests and expertise. You will contribute to meaningful projects that help build a positive volunteer experience, promote safety and wellbeing, and support our growing community.
Key Responsibilities Depending on your chosen focus or project assignments, responsibilities may include:
Recruitment:
- Supporting recruitment activities such as updating position descriptions, managing job postings, and assisting with candidate communications
- Screening applicant submissions and coordinating interview schedules
- Participating as a member of the interview panel for volunteer roles, conducting interviews, and contributing to selection decisions
- Helping implement recruitment process improvements and integration of online platforms
Work Health and Safety (WHS):
- Assisting the WHS team with compliance activities, risk assessments, and training coordination
- Supporting the maintenance of WHS systems and documentation
- Participating in initiatives to promote psychological safety and volunteer wellbeing
Wellbeing and Engagement:
- Supporting engagement projects like organising online regional meet-ups and volunteer storytelling initiatives
- Assisting in member check-ins and outreach communications
- Helping organise social events and initiatives that promote a positive community culture
General HR Support:
- Contributing to regular team meetings and providing feedback for continuous improvement
- Assisting with maintaining volunteer records and HR documentation
- Supporting communication between HR leadership and volunteers
About You
- Passionate about supporting people and contributing to a positive organisational culture
- Flexible and adaptable, eager to learn and take on new challenges across different HR domains
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to liaise with diverse teams and volunteers
- Comfortable with digital tools and platforms used for communication and project management
- Able to work independently with initiative and as part of a collaborative team
- Empathetic with a genuine interest in mental health and volunteer wellbeing
