Truck Driver and Offsider – House to Home Program

The Bower Reuse and Repair Centre is seeking a reliable and community-minded person to join our team as a Truck Driver and Offsider.

This is a combined role. The successful applicant must be confident driving the Bower truck and able to assist with collecting, loading, delivering and unloading furniture and whitegoods.

You will support our House to Home program, which helps people moving into new homes after experiencing crisis. You will also collect donated items from across Sydney, helping keep quality goods in use and out of landfill.

Hours

  • One to two days per week Monday-Friday
  • Approximately 9:30 am–4:00 pm
  • Participation in quarterly, full-day council recycling events held on Saturdays
  • Hours are offered through a flexible, rotating roster

Key responsibilities

  • Safely drive the Bower truck throughout Sydney.
  • Deliver furniture, whitegoods and other household items to people establishing new homes after experiencing crisis
  • Provide support, sensitivity and patiance to clinets coming out of crisis
  • Collect donated furniture and household goods from community members, saving it from going to landfill
  • Safely load and unload the truck as part of a two-person per day truck team
  • Clean, inspect and prepare collected items for reuse
  • Store furniture and whitegoods safely in our warehouses
  • Organise and maintain clean, safe and accessible warehouse spaces
  • Work closely with other members of the truck team, House to Home managers, Bower store managers and retail staff
  • Represent the Bower in a professional, respectful and compassionate manner to the public

Essential requirements

  • A current unrestricted car licence
  • Previous experience driving a large removal sized truck
  • A safe and responsible driving record
  • Willingness and ability to perform both the Driver and Offsider parts of the truck teams roles
  • The physical capacity to be on your feet for much of the day and undertake safe heavy lifting, with assistance from team members, trolleys and dollies
  • A practical and adaptable approach to work
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work safely and effectively as part of a team
  • Reliability and flexibility to participate in a rotating roster
  • A commitment to sustainability, reuse and positive community impact
  • A respectful and compassionate approach when working with people from diverse backgrounds

Desirable skills and experience

  • Forklift licence
  • Test and tag qualification
  • Experience working with people who have experienced homelessness, domestic and family violence, displacement or other crisis situations
  • Previous experience in furniture removals, deliveries, warehousing, logistics or reuse operations
