We're on the lookout for a financial virtuoso to be the backbone we need in order to save and change lives all over Australia.

Our Compliance Accountant is responsible for managing the our financial compliance, reporting and regulatory obligations while supporting day-to-day finance operations. In a small NFP environment, this is a hands-on role requiring a broad skill set across compliance, financial reporting, accounts processing, and grant management.

The role ensures accountability to regulators, funding bodies, donors, and the Board while supporting the organisation’s mission through strong financial stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Regulatory & Charity Compliance
  • Prepare and lodge ACNC Annual Information Statement and financial reports
  • Ensure compliance with AASB standards and relevant legislation
  • Maintain ongoing compliance with charity and DGR requirements
  • Keep up to date with changes in NFP reporting obligations
  1. Financial Reporting & Operations
  • Prepare monthly Payroll
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting
  • Support day-to-day finance tasks (e.g., reconciliations, journals, general ledger maintenance)
  1. Tax & Statutory Compliance
  • Prepare and lodge BAS, GST, and FBT (if applicable)
  • Maintain compliance with ATO requirements for NFPs
  • Liaise with external accountants or advisors as needed
  1. Internal Controls & Governance
  • Maintain practical internal controls appropriate for a small organisation
  • Identify risks and implement simple, effective mitigation strategies
  • Support Board reporting and governance requirements
  • Assist Treasurer/Board with financial oversight
  1. Audit & External Reporting
  • Coordinate external audit or review (if required)
  • Prepare supporting documentation and schedules
  • Assist in addressing audit findings
  1. Policies & Process Improvement
  • Develop and maintain simple financial policies and procedures
  • Improve processes to increase efficiency and reduce risk
  • Ensure processes are practical and fit-for-purpose for a small team
  1. General Finance Support (Broader Role Scope)
  • May assist with: 
    • Accounts payable/receivable
    • Bank reconciliations
  • Act as a key finance contact across the organisation

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years’ accounting experience (ideally hands-on across multiple functions)
  • Understanding of Australian accounting standards and compliance basics
  • Experience preparing Payroll and BAS and filing STP returns

Desirable

  • Experience with Fringe Benefits Tax
  • Familiar with Charity/NFP or similar environment
  • Familiarity with ACNC reporting and grant acquittals
  • CA/CPA qualification
  • Experience using cloud accounting systems (e.g., Xero)
