Social Media and Communications Volunteer

Evergreening Global Alliance (EGA) is an international charitable alliance working to accelerate large-scale landscape restoration, sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.
We collaborate with member organisations, governments, researchers, practitioners, businesses, investors and philanthropic partners to strengthen capacity, mobilise resources and support high-impact restoration initiatives around the world.
About the opportunity
EGA is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Social Media and Communications Volunteer to help raise awareness of international landscape restoration and climate resilience initiatives through engaging digital communications.
This opportunity is suited to communications, marketing, journalism, media, public relations or digital content professionals, graduates and students who would like to apply and further develop their skills, while contributing to meaningful international environmental and community outcomes.
Volunteer activities
Depending on experience and availability, volunteers may contribute to:
- Creating engaging content for EGA's social media channels, website and digital communications
- Developing graphics and visual content using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools
- Researching news, events and emerging topics relevant to landscape restoration, climate resilience and sustainable agriculture
- Preparing articles, newsletters, blogs, project stories and other communications materials
- Supporting EGA's communications planning, social media scheduling and content management
- Liaising with EGA staff, members and partners to source stories, images and technical content
- Assisting with meeting coordination, note-taking and the preparation of meeting summaries where required
Essential qualifications and experience
- At least two years' experience in communications, marketing, media, journalism, public relations or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- An understanding of social media platforms and digital communications best practice
- Experience creating digital content using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar applications
- Experience designing graphics and visual communications
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills across a range of communication formats
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage agreed activities within mutually agreed timeframes
- Commitment to EGA's mission and values
Desirable experience - experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- Website content management (e.g. WordPress or similar platforms)
- Photography, videography or video editing
- Social media scheduling and analytics tools
- Communications within the not-for-profit, environmental or international development sectors
- Experience preparing newsletters, annual reports or donor communications
- Knowledge of landscape restoration, climate change, biodiversity or sustainable agriculture
Volunteer arrangements
- Location: Remote
- Duration: Approximately 3–6 months (either party may conclude the arrangement at any time)
- Contribution: Approximately 8–12 hours per week, flexible to suit the volunteer's availability
- EGA Contact: Communications Lead or designated EGA contact
- Activities: Agreed prior to commencement
