About the opportunity

EGA is seeking an experienced Web Developer Volunteer to support the development, maintenance and enhancement of our website and digital platforms.

This opportunity is suited to web developers, software engineers and digital specialists who would like to apply their technical expertise to meaningful international environmental and community initiatives while contributing to the growth of a global not-for-profit organisation.

Volunteer activities - depending on experience and availability, volunteers may contribute to:

• Developing, maintaining and enhancing EGA's website to improve functionality, performance and user experience
• Designing and implementing website features, templates, themes and responsive front-end components
• Developing custom functionality using PHP, MySQL, JavaScript and related web technologies
• Troubleshooting website issues, optimising performance and supporting ongoing maintenance
• Integrating third-party applications, APIs and digital tools to improve website functionality
• Providing technical advice and contributing to the planning and development of new digital solutions

Essential qualifications and experience

• Minimum two years' experience in web development, software development or a related field
• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL and jQuery
• Experience developing and maintaining responsive websites
• Experience with front-end and back-end web development
• Experience troubleshooting, testing and optimising website performance
• Ability to translate organisational requirements into practical digital solutions
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to manage agreed activities within mutually agreed timeframes
• Commitment to EGA's mission and values

Desirable experience - experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:

• WordPress development, including custom themes and plugins
• MySQL database design and optimisation
• SASS or other CSS preprocessors
• REST APIs and third-party system integrations
• UI/UX design, wireframing and prototyping
• Website security, accessibility and SEO
• Cloud hosting or website deployment
• Experience working with not-for-profit organisations or international development programs

Volunteer arrangements

• Location: Remote
• Duration: Approx. 3–6 months (either party may conclude the arrangement at any time)
• Contribution: Approx. 5–12 hours per week, (to suit the volunteer's availability)

• Activities: Agreed prior to commencement
