About the Role

Wesley Aged Care Volunteer Visitors is a service that brings friendship, hope and companionship to older people who may be feeling lonely or socially isolated. We are looking for a caring and reliable male volunteer to visit an elderly gentleman in the Cherrybrook area and offer the gift of regular social connection.

For this gentleman, a friendly visit from another man could become a highlight of the week. A shared conversation, a cup of tea, a chat about sport, current events, hobbies, family, work life or memories can help build a genuine friendship over time. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, respectful and interested in making a meaningful difference through simple companionship.

Requirements:

• Aged 18 years and older
• Male volunteer who is warm, patient, kind and respectful
• Comfortable spending one-on-one time with an elderly gentleman
• Willingness to commit to regular visits (minimum one hour per fortnight)
• Minimum commitment of 12 months
• Completion of an interview process
• Successful National Criminal History Check
• Provision of referee checks
• Willingness to follow Wesley Mission policies, including confidentiality and professional boundaries

What You’ll Do

• Visit an elderly gentleman regularly, usually once a week or fortnight
• Offer companionship through conversation, listening, shared interests, games, music, reading, a walk or a simple cup of tea
• Help reduce loneliness and support emotional wellbeing
• Build a meaningful and rewarding friendship that can brighten both lives

No experience needed

You do not need formal experience to become a volunteer visitor. Wesley Mission will provide training, support and ongoing guidance. What matters most is kindness, reliability and a willingness to spend meaningful time with an older gentleman.
