Volunteer Support Practitioner

Support the people who make connection possible.
At 4 Voices, volunteers create connection before crisis - helping women feel welcomed, heard and connected with practical assistance, community, opportunity and trusted support.
For volunteers to do this well, they also need to feel safe, valued and supported.
As a Volunteer Support Practitioner, you’ll provide a calm and confidential first point of connection for volunteers who are experiencing a wellbeing concern, workplace issue or difficult emotional response related to their role.
You’ll listen, help volunteers understand their options and connect them with the right 4 Voices support, process or pathway.
What this opportunity offers
This role gives you the opportunity to:
- Use your people-support skills in a meaningful volunteer setting.
- Help volunteers feel heard, respected and less alone when concerns arise.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and psychologically safe volunteer culture.
- Build experience in early support, wellbeing navigation and sensitive conversations.
- Contribute insights that help 4 Voices strengthen the volunteer experience.
- Work with a purpose-driven national team committed to connection and belonging.
How you’ll support our volunteers
You’ll help by:
- Listening to volunteers who raise concerns about wellbeing, conduct, bullying or discrimination.
- Helping volunteers understand the support options and processes available to them.
- Connecting volunteers with appropriate pathways, including the Volunteer Assistance Program, relevant training or leadership support.
- Conducting respectful and supportive meetings with volunteers who need information or guidance.
- Following up so volunteers know what is happening and continue to feel supported.
- Promoting the Volunteer Code of Conduct, Equal Opportunity and anti-bullying policies in clear and accessible ways.
- Keeping brief, accurate and confidential records of support provided and agreed actions.
- Identifying common themes and providing constructive feedback and recommendations to leadership.
- Contributing to volunteer wellbeing communications, information and resources.
This role provides early support, information and connection to appropriate pathways. It does not replace professional counselling or clinical care.
This could be a great fit if you
- Have a background in Social Work or Psychology.
- Enjoy supporting people and creating a space where they feel comfortable speaking openly.
- Listen with empathy, openness and without judgement.
- Communicate clearly and sensitively, both verbally and in writing.
- Can handle personal information with care, discretion and confidentiality.
- Are organised and able to maintain brief and accurate records.
- Can follow through on agreed actions and provide timely updates.
- Are comfortable using technology to communicate, document and coordinate support.
- Can identify when a concern needs to be referred or escalated.
You’ll be supported with
- Clear 4 Voices policies, processes and support pathways.
- Guidance from the relevant leadership team.
- Access to information and resources to help you support volunteers consistently.
- Connection with a national volunteer community focused on care, dignity and belonging.
By supporting the wellbeing of our volunteers, you help strengthen the people who create connection across every 4 Voices program.
