WHY WOULD SOMEONE CHOOSE TO VOLUNTEER AS A CRISIS SUPPORTER?

People choose to volunteer as a Telephone Crisis Supporter at Lifeline for many meaningful reasons. While the work is about supporting others, volunteers often gain a lot personally as well.

🌱 Make a Real Difference

Volunteers have the opportunity to support people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Simply listening and being present can have a powerful impact and help someone feel less alone.

🧠 Learn Valuable Skills

Lifeline provides comprehensive training in areas such as:

  • Active listening

  • Managing difficult conversations

These skills are valuable not only in volunteering, but also in work and everyday life.

🤝 Be Part of a Supportive Community

Volunteers become part of a caring and supportive team. Many people form strong friendships and feel connected to a community of people who share similar values.

💛 Personal Growth

Many volunteers say the experience helps them:

  • Build confidence
  • Gain perspective on life
  • Develop emotional intelligence
  • Feel a strong sense of purpose

📚 Professional Development

For some people, volunteering can also support career goals, particularly in fields such as:

  • Counselling
  • Psychology
  • Social work
  • Health and community services

🌟 A Sense of Purpose

Knowing that you’ve helped someone through a difficult moment can be incredibly rewarding. Many volunteers describe it as one of the most meaningful things they’ve done.
