Committee Member – Away From Keyboard Inc. (AFK)
Purpose of the Role Committee Members support the governance, strategic direction, and growth of Away From Keyboard Inc. (AFK), ensuring the organisation delivers on its mission to protect and support young people and families impacted by online harm.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to strategic planning and organisational direction
Support advocacy initiatives relating to digital safety, AI, and emerging technologies
Attend and actively participate in committee meetings
Provide oversight of programs, partnerships, and growth initiatives
Uphold governance responsibilities in line with incorporated association requirements
Act as an ambassador for AFK in the community and professional networks
Skills & Experience (desirable)
Experience in governance, nonprofit, policy, education, mental health, or technology
Interest in digital safety, AI, or social impact
Strategic thinking and collaborative mindset
Strong communication and decision-making skills
Time Commitment
Approx. 4–6 meetings per year (with additional working groups as needed)
Preparation and occasional involvement in events or initiatives
Governance This is a voluntary governance role within an incorporated association. Committee Members are expected to act in good faith, with care and diligence, and in the best interests of the organisation.
