Research Validation Partner

WHAT YOU WILL DO Depending on your discipline, your contribution may include one or more of:

Reviewing the conceptual framework and instrument design for methodological soundness Contributing to item development and scoring schema refinement Participating in pilot study design and data collection Contributing to psychometric validation (reliability testing, factor structure, convergent validity) Co-authoring peer-reviewed publications arising from the validation work Advising on funding applications (ARC Linkage 2027, NHMRC Partnership Projects) Providing expert review of specific instrument components within your discipline

Engagement is flexible and can be structured around your existing commitments. We are open to discussing what meaningful contribution looks like for each partner.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR We are seeking candidates with postgraduate qualifications and/or professional expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: Primary disciplines (most urgently needed):

Psychometrics / quantitative research methods Public health / epidemiology Gender economics / feminist economics Stress physiology / allostatic load research

Secondary disciplines:

Domestic, family and sexual violence research Cultural heritage / UNESCO frameworks Workforce policy and labour economics Health and medical humanities Law (particularly cultural property, gender equity, or social policy)

PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers are particularly encouraged to apply. This work offers a genuine co-authorship opportunity on a nationally significant, interdisciplinary research project. Established academics seeking a meaningful volunteer contribution outside their primary institution are also welcome.

Training

All volunteers receive a one-on-one induction with CWA's founder covering the organisation's history, strategy, and priorities. Full access to CWA's research library — white papers, policy proposals, and published audits — is provided from day one. Ongoing support and regular check-ins with the executive are available throughout the placement.

Time required

We ask for a minimum of 4–6 hours per week, with full flexibility in how and when those hours are worked. CWA is a remote, asynchronous organisation — consistent output matters more than fixed hours. We work with each volunteer to establish a sustainable rhythm. Some weeks will require more around key deadlines or milestones. All roles begin with a founder induction conversation.

Requirements

THE ROLE The Creative Women's Association is seeking research validation partners across multiple disciplines to collaborate on a proposed structural measurement suite for women's cultural labour in Australia. The suite comprises three proposed instruments: The Domestic & Care Load (DCL) Index — a proposed structural health metric integrating unpaid labour, caregiving intensity, mental load, allostatic stress, and financial precarity into a single measurable index The Intangible Labour Value (ILV) Index — a proposed valuation framework calculating the economic value of women's intangible cultural labour and specifying remuneration mechanisms The Cultural Workforce Index™ (CWI) — a proposed workforce metric evaluating structural load as a constraint on cultural sector participation All three instruments are at the conceptual development stage. The evidential foundation is established. The instruments require formal psychometric validation, peer review, and publication to progress to the next stage. This is original research with a clear conceptual foundation. The validation work is the contribution being sought.
