Event Crew Needed: Step out for Cancer 2026 - No experience required!
Over four weeks away
Join us for the second annual Step Out for Cancer, a powerful community event supporting the Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Randwick. Taking place on Sunday 11 October 2026, this inspiring event includes a 6km walk, 5km & 10km runs, and a vibrant finish-line festival featuring food, entertainment and activities. We are seeking enthusiastic, reliable and community-minded volunteers to help deliver a safe, memorable and uplifting experience for participants and families impacted by cancer.
Available roles & key duties
Event Bump-In (Saturday)
- Assist with event setup including signage, marquees and equipment
- Support logistics teams and site preparation
Course Marshals (Walk & Run)
- Direct participants along the course
- Ensure safety at crossings and key points
- Provide encouragement and a positive atmosphere
Start Line Marshals (Walk & Run)
- Help organise participants at the start line
- Deliver clear instructions and manage flow
12-Seater Van Driver
- Transport staff, equipment or participants between locations
- Must hold appropriate driver’s licence
First Aid & CPR Volunteers
- Provide basic medical support if required
- Monitor participant wellbeing (qualification required)
Course Sweep Team
- Follow the final participants along the course
- Ensure no one is left behind and report any issues
Skills & experience
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds! Ideal qualities include:
- Friendly, approachable and positive attitude
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to follow instructions and remain calm under pressure
- Reliability and punctuality
Additional requirements for specific roles:
- Valid driver’s licence (for van drivers)
- First Aid/CPR certification (for medical roles)

Step Out for Cancer raises vital funds for the Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre, supporting life-changing research, prevention programs and care services for children, young people and families affected by cancer.

Impact of your role Your contribution helps ensure participants feel safe, supported and inspired while directly contributing to funding breakthroughs in cancer research and care. Every volunteer plays a vital role in creating a positive and memorable experience.
All volunteers will receive a pre-event briefing with key information, plus a short on-the-day induction covering role duties, safety and site orientation. Role-specific guidance will be provided, and team leaders will be available throughout the event for support. No prior experience needed, just a positive attitude!
