Sport Teacher/Trainer

Volunteer Role Description
Volunteers will work alongside Yellow Dove Australia staff to support the training and mentoring of local Timorese project staff over a four-week deployment.
During the first three weeks, volunteers will:
- Assist in delivering practical sport and recreation training to local Timorese staff.
- Demonstrate coaching techniques, lesson planning, and safe activity delivery.
- Mentor local staff in leading sport sessions for children, teenagers, young adults and adults.
- Support the development of leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
- Assist with child safeguarding, participant wellbeing, and risk management practices.
- Provide encouragement and constructive feedback as local staff progressively take responsibility for leading activities.
- Help prepare sporting equipment, activity stations and session resources.
- Model culturally respectful and inclusive community engagement.
During the final project delivery week, volunteers will:
- Support the local Timorese staff as they independently deliver community sport sessions.
- Observe coaching delivery and provide mentoring where required.
- Assist with participant engagement and activity supervision.
- Help monitor safety, attendance and program logistics.
- Support community game days and sporting events.
- Assist Yellow Dove Australia staff in evaluating participant outcomes and documenting the project.
Volunteer Expectations
Volunteers are expected to:
- Work collaboratively with Timorese staff and community members.
- Respect local customs, traditions and cultural practices.
- Be adaptable, positive and willing to work in a developing community environment.
- Promote inclusion, teamwork and positive role modelling.
- Represent Yellow Dove Australia professionally at all times.
- Contribute to creating a sustainable, community-led program that remains operational after the volunteer deployment concludes.
